Amsterdam, The Netherlands

photo-6This past October, I had the opportunity of joining a friend and her family attend the Amsterdam Marathon that her husband was participating in. We stayed in a lovely apartment rented from that was only a few minute walk from where the event was being held. 6275 The atmosphere in the stadium was unlike anything I had experienced before. Everyone was so happy and encouraging. We could see the finish line from where we were standing and some runners had a difficult time finishing. Some participants would help strangers finish that we’re having a hard time. There was Amman interviewing people at the end of the race asking where they were from, etc. and it was amazing to hear and see the diversity in the participants. DSC06278 DSC06275 The day before and after the marathon gave us time to look around the city. We went to this amazing park, Vondelpark, that had a café and a crazy climbing thing for kids. Thankfully, I could use the kids we were with as an excuse to climb it. DSC06285 DSC06287 DSC06288 We also went to the Red Light District at night. It was definitely an experience; a good or a bad one I’m not sure of yet. I think it is something every visitor (who is an appropriate age) needs to experience to understand the Red Light District fully. DSC06271 DSC06281
